Our programs rely on the help of parent and community volunteers like you. Becoming a volunteer coach is a great way to enrich the lives of your children and other young people in our community. As a volunteer coach you are a mentor to a whole team of young people, teach skills and create memories that will stay with your players for a lifetime. You become an important part of their youth sport experience. As a head coach, when you register, the fee for one child is waived once the steps below are completed. - Complete the volunteer/coach application.
- Attend or complete the Sport Specific Coaches Training programs.
- National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) Coaches Training program. (online fee is $20 or attend one at the YB for no cost) www.nays.org/coaches. Complete an on-line background check with “Protect Youth Sports” fee is $12.50, https://opportunities.averity.com/ithacayouthbb
- Attend sport specific coach’s organizational meeting.

Fall Coaching and Volunteer Opportunities
Flag/Small Fry Football -- Coach or assistant coach a team. Small Fry football is a county-wide Youth Football League for kids. Practices begin mid-August and are 2-3 evenings per week (practice schedule will be available at the time of registration). Games are typically on Sat/Sun afternoons. The season ends late October.
Rotary Youth Soccer -- Coach, assistant coach, or referee a team of players in grades PreK-8th grades (ages 8-14). Season runs early September through end of October. Teams practice one evening per week and play games on Sunday afternoons. Cross Country -- Assist the head coaches on trail runs, maintain supervision and safety. Email Gordy for more information. |
Soccer
Volunteer Coaches are needed for all levels Pre K - 8th grade. Please fill out a volunteer coaching application and submit it to the Youth Bureau. The Recreation Program Coordinator will contact you with information about trainings, rosters, and schedules for practices and games.
Coaching Pre K- 1st Grade
The coaching commitment for Pre K - 1st grade is one day per week (Sunday) for one hour. Coaches on this level will have practices and scrimmages to help teach the game of soccer on Sundays only. The coaches facilitate and referee the games. If you are a head coach and you have children participating in the program, the registration fee will be waived for one child on the team that you are coaching.

*Practices for Grades Pre K - 1st begin on September 11th at Cass Park
Pre K: 1:00 - 1:55
Kindergarten: 2:00 - 2:55
1st Grade: 3:00 - 3:55
Coaching Grades 2-8
The coaching commitment for grades 2-8 is twice per week. Practices are generally scheduled for either Tuesday or Thursday for 60-90 minutes in the evenings beginning September 8th and one game per week played on Sundays at Cass Park at a designated time (Schedule TBD based on number of teams). Coaches for these divisions will be allowed (but certainly not required) to submit pre-formed rosters of 4 players (Due 8/27/15). This allows a few close friends, but saves spaces for team balancing and placement of new players. If you are a head coach and you have children participating in the program, the registration fee will be waived for one child on the team that you are coaching.
